DIY: IKEA HACK

Welcome to my first ever DIY project. I was kind of nervous when Patrick and I decided to go with the Ikea furniture but I am so happy with how they turned out.  (please excuse these awful pictures and the pinkish carpet).  We (I should say, Patrick) picked up these 3 Drawer TARVA Dressers and 2 of these six drawer TARVA dressers from Ikea in Pittsburg on his way back home from Christmas.  We (I should say, Patrick) put togther the big dressers and one of the nightstands.  As we were getting ready to build the other, we realized the other nightstand had duplicate part in the box, but I will get to that debacle later.

I purchased these brass pulls for $3 each to replace the ugly stock knobs and stained the dresser with a dark walnut stain, let it dry and TA DA- a nightstand for less than $100! We decided to go with the three drawer dressers for the nightstand in order to have some extra storage which I absolutely love.  My favorite part of the new nightstand is the contrast of the dark wood with our white bedding and headboard.

So back to our debacle, if you were ever hesitant about buying Ikea furniture because you have to put it together... I will change that forever.  I PUT TOGETHER AN IKEA DRESSER on my own.  I want to shout it from the rooftop.  I honestly didn't think I would be able to do it (let's just say I am not so great with a hammer), but a couple hours later and some love, my little masterpiece came to life.

Hi Katie- I used Dark Walnut stain from Lowes and I got the pulls on Amazon. I searched brass ring pulls and they were the first ones to come up. You can also find the link to them on my Pinterest page.

It looks fantastic!!! I love the color and the brass rings. Did you build the dresser and then stained it? Do you think it would be easier to stain it and then build it?

Hi Alba- we went back and forth on what to so and we decided to put it together and then stain it. It worked out great, but if you want the inside of the drawers to be stained I would recommend staining first! Feel free to send me an email if you have any other questions!
